Wow. Sometimes you just pick a place at random and have a pleasant surprise. The welcome, the hospitality the food, the beer and they even lit a fire. It’s really fun to find a great pub that just makes you feel at home. I would recommend and will go back.
Service Thursday 5 December excellent. Food good and I'd go back just for the Yorkshires - they are the best and reminded me of being in Grimethorpe. Lovely place. Good value.
5 stars from me for amazing food and incredible service, the chef came himself to collect the order and the staff were really friendly , seriously well cooked food , I will come back again 🥳
Came here just to try the hawkstone range, and really enjoyed this pub. Friendly staff and regulars. Food was hot - only ordered a childrens meal and portion of chips. Service was quick. Nice atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.
we were on a pilgrimage on St Peters Way and in need of fuel! The welcome was warm and the food fabulous. They even checked the ingredients to make sure it would be gluten free and suitable for celiac needs x
We had our second meal tonight, and once again, the food was good, the staff were excellent, and we look forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.
Nice pub with a chilled atmosphere. Service was good but expected a bit more from the food. Would go back if passing through that way again. Maybe try something different from the menu
A fantastic local pub close to the centre of Bicknacre. The menu has plenty of options, all which are enticing. Our group went for the burger, chicken and mushroom pie and the lamb, all were excellent with a healthy portion size. This was followed up with the cheesecake which was Cadbury's caramel this time. For a group with individual starters, mains, desserts and drinks came in at under £100. We will definitely be back for another visit.
Warm welcome and brilliant service. The fish and chips were excellent, southern fried chicken burger wasn't great though, seemed like one you'd buy frozen from a supermarket. Good portion sizes and value for money though. Plenty of tables in the back garden, decor inside reminded me of my nans house, toilets surprisingly very clean and modern.
Tried to come here today for my wife’s birthday lunch. Booked the table however the pub was shut due to the barman phoning in sick. Was told by the chef that the landlord would be coming in later that day. I know the barman phoning in sick isn’t the landlords fault but that is very poor management to expect just 2 members of staff ie chef and a barman to cover a lunch setting. It left us really stuck and disappointed as was looking forward to it due to the other good reviews.
I love love love this pub I took my girls to white elm for Easter weekend with my family (15 of us) and we wanted to go somewhere to eat afterwards, we found the drunken dragon and it was the best decision we made, they squeezed us in last minute which was incredibly amazing of them, they made us feel super welcome and were so kind and friendly, the food was out of this world considering they had to cook for an extra 15 people!!! Service was quick and they were very reasuring, they come over to check everything was ok, which made the day a whole lotore fun and enjoyable with my family.
Thank you so much Will be coming here again for sure.
My husband and I had dinner last night with my daughter and husband, granddaughter it was my husband and I's first time. The food was lovely and the staff was friendly and polite. The food was brought up quickly considering they were busy Mel & Elles were excellent. We also met the landlords mum and dad who were helping out they were chatty & friendly and couldn't do enough for us. I highly recommend this pub we will definitely be returning. Good English family pub!
Great pub with very friendly staff. Service was very good, as was the food. Had fish and chips off the menu and enjoyed every bite! Old traditional pub, which is becoming harder to find these days. Definitely visit again 👍🏻
Great pub serving lovely food. This pub is very accommodating and very kindly fitted us in just before the kitchen closed. Great beer, great service, great food - a proper essex pub!
